
Betty Who to make Broadway debut in 'Hadestown'
The Australian pop singer will step into the Tony Award-winning show at the Walter Kerr Theatre in September alongside Tony nominee Phillip Boykin.
She's livin' it up on top! Musician Betty Who will join the Hadestown Broadway cast, playing her first performance on September 5 at the Walter Kerr Theatre.
Who is an Australian pop singer who has been active in the music scene since 2012. She is known for her albums Take Me When You Go, The Valley, Betty, and Big! Hadestown marks not only her Broadway debut, but also her stage debut at large.
She joins the cast as Persephone alongside Tony Award nominee Phillip Boykin (Porgy & Bess) as Hades, who also begins on September 5. They will replace current cast members Jewelle Blackman and Tom Hewitt, respectively.
The current Hadestown cast also includes Reeve Carney as Orpheus, Lillias White as Hermes, and Eva Noblezada as Eurydice. As previously announced, Noblezada will play her final performance on August 13; her replacement has yet to be announced.
Anaïs Mitchell's eight-time Tony-winning folk/jazz musical blends the Greek myths of Orpheus, Eurydice, Hades, and Persephone into one romantic tragedy. When Eurydice sells her soul to become a worker in Hades's underground factory, Orpheus takes a dangerous journey to rescue her.
