A brand new play, inspired by the creation and development of the Batman movie franchise is aiming for a Broadway premiere in the 2022-23 season. Currently titled Darknights and Daydreams, Michael Uslan adapts his Batman-inspired memoir 'The Boy Who Loved Batman', with development readings later this month.

As well as being the show's playwright and starring in his production, Michael Uslan is best known as the originator and executive producer of the Batman movie franchise. He's worked on films including Joker, The Dark Knight, Batman v Superman and the upcoming film The Batman, to be released in 2022.

Speaking about the stage adaptation, Uslan said: "Broadway has always been a magical place where audiences flock to be inspired by stories of dreamers and underdogs who triumph over the odds... The play is not about Batman, not about Batman movies, and it's not about me. No, it's about finding joy and passion in life.

Darknights and Daydreams tells a story of burning with a passion, dreaming big, painful perseverance, getting up off the damn couch, knocking on doors till your knuckles bleed, overcoming obstacles, and then changing the world culture's perception of comic books and super-heroes."

Darknights and Daydreams follows Michael, who during his childhood collected over 30,000 comic books. Fed up with seeing Batman as a kitsch character, Michael wished to "restore darkness" to the character, pitching the first Batman film for over a decade.

Casting, a venue and a further creative team for Darknights and Daydreams are to be announced.

Darknights and Daydreams will be on Broadway in the 2022-2023 season.
