Anton at the Greenwich Street Theatre


Anton, a new play exploring playwright Anton Chekhov's search for love and happiness, by Pierre Van Der Spuy, opens at the Greenwich Street Theatre on the 11 Jan 2006, following a preview on the 10 Jan and running through to the 29 Jan 2006.

Anton tells the story of the life of Anton Chekhov and the family tensions that inspired his work and his well-known characters. Chronicling the last four years of Chekhov's life as he moves from ecstatic lover to frustrated husband to disappointed father and finally to a man facing his own mortality, the play examines the role of intellect and culture to affect man's ability to change and find happiness in everyday life.

Anton's cast, directed by Pierre van der Spuy, features: Pierre van der Spuy as Anton, Loyita Chapel as Evgenia Chekhov, Ana Kearin Genske as Olga Knipper, Jim Heaphy as Sergei, Lee Kaplan as Bunin, Kent Langloss as Dr. Altshuller, Shelley Phillips as Masha Chekhov and Jamison Vaughn (Mariushka).

The production has set design by Sarah Phykitt, costumes by Katie Stults and lighting by Jessica Lynn Hinkle.
