After the Dance: Nicole Kidman in revival?

The Daily Mail reports that Nicole Kidman may return to Broadway to star in the National Theatre's (NT) 2010 Olivier Award winning production of Terence Rattigan's After the Dance, which is expected to arrive on BRoadway in the spring or fall of 2013.

Kidman is reportedly in the early stages of talks with producers, and if a deal can be reached, she will star as 'Joan Scott-Fowler,' a wife who is deserted by her husband for a younger woman.

After The Dance: As the world races towards catastrophe, a crowd of Mayfair socialites party their way to oblivion. At its centre is 'David Scott-Fowler,' who idles away his sober moments researching a futile book until the beautiful 'Helen Banner' decides to save him, shattering his marriage and learning too late the depth of both David's indolence and his wife's (Joan) undeclared love. But with finances about to crash and humanity on the brink of global conflict, the drink keeps flowing and the revellers dance on.

The National Theatre production premiered at the Lyttelton Theatre in 2010. Directed by Thea Sharrock, it starred Benedict Cumberbatch as 'David Scott-Fowler,' Nancy Carroll as 'Joan Scott-Fowler' and Faye Castelow as 'Helen Banner.' The production won four Olivier awards, including best revival and best actress for Nancy Carroll.

There has been talks about bringing the NT production to Broadway with it's principal cast in tact. However, USA producers are concerned that actress Nancy Carroll is an unknown name in America, and are only prepared to mount the production if it stars a big name.

Nicole Kidman last appeared on Broadway fourteen years ago, when she made her debut in David Hare's 'The Blue Room.' The Academy-award winning actress, who was expected to return to Broadway in the postponed Broadway production of Tenessee William's 'Sweet Bird Of Youth,' has been looking for a theatrical project in which to star.

Kidman was won an Academy Award for her portrayal of "Virginia Woolf" in "The Hours," and was nominated for her work in "Moulin Rouge!" and "Rabbit Hole." Kidman is known for her appearances in the movies "Days of Thunder," "Far and Away," and "Batman Forever." Recent film credits include "Just Go with It" and "Trespass."
