Adrienne Warren to return as Tina Turner in ‘Tina - The Tina Turner Musical’

Ahead of Tina - The Tina Turner Musical reopening on Broadway in the fall, initial casting has been confirmed. The Tony Award-nominated star Adrienne Warren will return to play Tina Turner from October 8 for a limited engagement at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre.

Adrienne Warren is currently nominated for Best Actress in a Musical for playing Tina Turner. Tina - The Tina Turner Musical is currently nominated for 12 Tony Awards, ahead of the ceremony on 26 September. Find out which Tony Awards Tina the Musical is nominated for here

Further casting is to be announced.

Tina - The Tina Turner Musical is an autobiographical musical that charts the public and private lives of Tina Turner. It's set to her greatest hits including "Nutbush City Limits" and "Proud Mary."

In a review for New York Theatre Guide, Mark Shenton commented that "Adrienne Warren has now arrived as a one-woman fireball of energy and exhilaration. But she's also an actor who expertly negotiates the combination of heartache and drive that propelled Turner to stardom." 

Tina - The Tina Turner Musical features an original book by Katori Hall with Frank Ketelaar and Kees Prins. Phyllida Lloyd directs, with choreography by Anthony van Laast, scenic and costume designs by Mark Thompson, lighting design by Bruno Poet and sound design by Nevin Steinberg.

Tina - The Tina Turner Musical is at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre from October 8.
