Nick Rashad Burroughs to play Ike Turner in ‘Tina - The Tina Turner Musical’

Daniel J. Watts will leave the show on January 16.

Original Tina - The Tina Turner Musical Broadway cast member Nick Rashad Burroughs will take over the role of Ike Turner later this month. The Tony-nominated actor Daniel J. Watts will play his last performance as Ike Turner on January 16, with Burroughs assuming the role from January 18. Tina - The Tina Turner Musical is at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre.

Burroughs has starred in Tina - The Tina Turner Musical since it began performances on Broadway in November 2019. Previously, Burroughs has starred in King Kong and Kinky Boots. 

Nkeki Obi-Melekwe currently stars as Tina Turner, taking over the role from Adrienne Warren. Kayla Davion plays Tina (at some performances), with Dawnn Lewis as Zelma, Myra Lucretia Taylor as Gran Georgeanna and Jessica Rush as Rhonda.

The Tina - The Tina Turner Musical cast is completed by Juliet Benn, Steven Booth, Gerald Caesar, Julius Chase, Ayla Ciccone-Burton, Holli' Conway, Leandra Ellis-Gaston, Charlie Franklin, Judith Franklin, Josiah Gaffney, Matthew Griffin, Ari Groover, Sheldon Henry, David Jennings, Ross Lekites, Robert Lenzi, Rob Marnell, Jhardon DiShon Milton, NaTonia Monét, Phierce Phoenix, Deon Releford-Lee, Justin Schuman, Allysa Shorte, Eric Siegle, Carla R. Stewart, Skye Dakota Turner, Eric A. Walker Jr., Katie Webber and Michelle West.

Tina - The Tina Turner Musical charts the life of rock 'n' roll icon, Tina Turner, to her hits including "Proud Mary" and "River Deep Mountain High." Tina - The Tina Turner Musical is written by Katori Hall with Frank Ketelaar and Kees Prins, with direction by Phyllida Lloyd, choreography by Anthony van Laast, set and costume designs by Mark Thompson, lighting design by Bruno Poet, and sound design by Nevin Steinberg.

In a Tina - The Tina Turner Musical review, our critic said: "there's a strong dramatic spine that makes [the show] feel particularly earned and respected, and a necessary release for the audience, too."
