Ariana Grande and Jonathan Bailey make it official.

Speculation has been rife for months, but it was finally confirmed on January 14 that the Wicked and Wicked: For Good co-stars will perform opposite each other in Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine’s Pulitzer Prize-winning Sunday in the Park with George at the Barbican in 2027.

Ariana Grande — best known for her pop career singing hits such as “Thank U, Next” and “We Can’t Be Friends” until hitting the big screen — will make her London stage debut in the show, alongside seasoned West End performer Jonathan Bailey, who just last year performed in Richard II at the Bridge Theatre.

Wicked fans excited to see Fiyero and Glinda’s onscreen chemistry replicated on stage are unlikely to be disappointed — but it’ll be a challenge to snap up tickets to this show when they go on sale this May.

Eva Noblezada and Reeve Carney pass on the Cabaret baton.

Broadway power couple Reeve Carney and Eva Noblezada have been performing as cabaret singer Sally Bowles and the slippery Emcee in Kander and Ebb’s musical since September 2025, but as of January 26, they switched places with Busted frontman Matt Willis and West End star Katie Hall, best known for her repeat appearances in long-running musical Les Misérables. But fear not — Noblezada and Carney can soon be seen starring opposite each other once again, and this time on home turf, as they play Jay Gatsby and Daisy Buchanan in The Great Gatsby on Broadway.

Mary Todd Lincoln comes under the spotlight.

You wait ages for a show about Mary Todd Lincoln, and then two come along at once! Cole Escola’s hilarious comedy Oh, Mary! about the former First Lady in the days leading up to her husband’s assassination transferred from Broadway in December 2025, with Mason Alexander in the lead role (read all about it in London Theatre's review).

The drama continues at the Trafalgar Theatre, while John Ransom Phillips’s play Mrs President opens at Charing Cross Theatre, starring The Greatest Showman actor Keala Settle as Mary Todd. Very different in tone, style and, to be honest, in almost every other way, Mrs President charts the First Lady’s relationship with Mathew Brady, who was branded the “first celebrity photographer.” The show returns to London in a reimagined version following its first outing in 2025.

Frank Sinatra’s life will be made into a musical.

Frank Sinatra returns to the spotlight in a musical that follows his career from the stage of New York’s Paramount Theatre at 27 years old, through his torrid affair with Ava Gardner, to one of the greatest comebacks in music history. We are keeping our eyes peeled for casting on this one, but the show promises to be a celebration of the singer’s back catalogue, with over 20 songs including "That’s Life," "One For My Baby," "The Best Is Yet To Come," and "Come Fly With Me."

An impressive creative team has also been assembled, with Tony-winning writer Joe DiPietro (Memphis the Musical) and director/choreographer Kathleen Marshall (Top Hat, Anything Goes) leading the charge.

West End star Jessie Buckley leads awards season.

Jessie Buckley is no stranger to the London stage, and she most recently appeared in Rebecca Frecknall’s award-winning Cabaret as Sally Bowles alongside Eddie Redmayne’s Emcee. The pair took their performance to Broadway, and Buckley’s star has only continued to rise since then. Just this month, she won Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama for playing Agnes Shakespeare in the historical film Hamnet (which was previously made into a West End play in 2023) and she has just been nominated for an Oscar. Everything this actor touches turns to gold.

If you're looking to see another of the film's stars on stage in London, Noah Jupe is about to make his West End debut opposite Sadie Sink in Romeo & Juliet.

Coming up: Cynthia Erivo sharpens her teeth in Dracula.

While Ariana and Jonathan start thinking about their big theatre project at the Barbican in 2027, their co-star Cynthia Erivo is preparing to play 23 roles in a one-woman show of Dracula. Adapted and directed by Kip Williams, who created theatrical alchemy with his one-woman The Picture of Dorian Gray with Sarah Snook in the West End and on Broadway, Dracula promises to be an adrenaline-fueled ride through Bram Stoker’s story of the enigmatic vampire.
