A Man's A Man: Justin Vivian Bond to star

Avant-garde performance artist Justin Vivian Bond will star 'Leokadia Begbick' - a role originated by Brecht's wife Helene Weigel - in Classic Stage Compay's (CSC) production of Bertolt Brecht's A Man's A Man, playing at the Off-Broadway venue from 10 Jan 2014.

Additional casting will be announced in the coming weeks.

A Man's A Man will be directed by Brian Kulick and feature a new score and songs by Tony Award-winning composer Duncan Sheik. Kulick and Sheil collaborated together earlier this year on CSC's revival of Brecht's 'The Caucasian Chalk Circle.'

In this early farce by Brecht, an innocent dockworker 'Galy Gay' in British Colonial India is rather unorthodoxly enlisted into Her Majesty's Armed Forces, where he is "dismantled like a car" and then reassembled into the ultimate fighting machine.

Justin Vivian Bond is a writer, singer, painter, and performance artist. Bond has starred on Broadway alongside Kenny Mellman in their shoew 'Kiki & Herb: Alive on Broadway,' which was nominated for a to Award for Best Special Theatrical Event. Her film credits include John Cameron Mitchell's "Shortbus," "Sunset Stories," "Imaginary Heroes" and "Fanci's Persuasion." Bond is the author of the Lambda Literary Award winning memoir 'TANGO: My Childhood, Backwards and in High Heels.'
