A Catered Affair: Tom Wopat to play the father-of-the-bride

Tom Wopat will return to Broadway to play Tom Hurley, the father of the bride, in A Catered Affair. Wopat will star alongside Faith Prince, Harvey Fierstein and Leslie Kritzer.

The musical features book by Harvey Fierstein and score by composer John Bucchino, and will be directed by Tony Award winner John Doyle (Sweeney Todd), who is currently represented on Broadway by Company.

Based on the 1956 Turner Entertainment motion picture written by Gore Vidal, and the original teleplay by Paddy Chayefsky, A Catered Affair reveals relationships strained to their limits when a couple must decide whether to spend their life savings on a family business or to launch their only daughter's marriage with a lavish catered affair.

Prior to opening on Broadway, A Catered Affair will inaugurate the 2007-8 season at San Diego's Old Globe Theatre, where performances begin on 20 Sep 2007.

Futher casting for the musical will be announced shortly.

Wopat was last seen on Broadway as James Lingk in 'Glengarry Glen Ross' (2005 revival), he made his Broadway debut as Wally in 'I Love My Wife' (1977). His other Broadway credits are 'City of Angels' (1989), 'Guys and Dolls' (1992 revival), 'Chicago' (1996 revival), 'Annie Get Your Gun' (1999 revival) and 42nd Street (2001). Wopat is best known to the world as Luke Duke from the TV series 'The Dukes of Hazzard'.

A Catered Affair will be produced on Broadway by Jujamcyn Theaters, Harvey Entertainment/Ron Fierstein and Richie Jackson.
