A Catered Affair: Matt Cavenaugh is to play the groom in Fierstein's new musical comedy

Matt Cavenaugh will join the cast in this season�s Broadway production of A Catered Affair, the new musical with book by four-time Tony Award-winner Harvey Fierstein, score by John Bucchino and directed by Tony Award-winner John Doyle.

The musical is to open on Broadway on 17 Apr 2008, following previews from 25 Mar, at a theatre to be announced.

With the news that Matt Cavenaugh is to join the previously announced Faith Prince, Tom Wopat, Harvey Fierstein, Leslie Kritzer, Philip Hoffman, Katie Klaus, Heather MacRae, Lori Wilner and Kristine Zbornik, the featured cast is now compelte for the musical.

Based on the 1956 Turner Entertainment motion picture written by Gore Vidal, and the original teleplay by Paddy Chayefsky, A Catered Affair reveals relationships strained to their limits when a couple must decide whether to spend their life savings on a family business or to launch their only daughter's marriage with a lavish catered affair.

Prior to opening on Broadway, A Catered Affair will inaugurate the 2007-8 season at San Diego's Old Globe Theatre, where performances begin on 20 Sep 2007.

A Catered Affair will be produced on Broadway by Jujamcyn Theaters, Harvey Entertainment/Ron Fierstein and Richie Jackson.

Matt Cavenaugh was last seen on Broadway as Joe Kennedy, Jr. and Jerry in the Tony nominated Grey Gardens, which ended its run on 29 Jul 2007. He made his debut as Bud in the Broadway production of Urban Cowboy (2003).
