Melissa Marie Benoist was born on October 4, 1988 in Littleton, Colerado, and is probably best know for her television roles as the title character of DC Comics' hit TV series "Supergirl" on The CW and as Marley Rose in the musical TV series "Glee" on Fox.

She started dance classes at the age of three and also attended the Academy of Theatre Arts, a musical theatre school in Littleton, as a teenager. She graduated from Arapahoe High School in Centennial, Colorado, in 2007, and from Marymount Manhattan College in New York City in 2011 with a Bachelor degree in Theatre Arts. Whilst still in education, she appeared in a plethora of regional productions, including The Sound of MusicBye Bye BirdieA Month in the CountryA Chorus Line, Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella, and Footloose at Littleton Town Hall Arts Center, The Sound of Music and Evita at Country Dinner Playhouse, and Thoroughly Modern Millie and As You Like It at Marymount Manhattan College.

Ms. Benoist made her feature film debut in "Tennessee" in 2008 and appeared in guest roles in a string of TV series in 2010, including "Law & Order: Criminal Intent," "Blue Bloods," "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit," and "The Good Wife," and "Homeland" in 2011. She rose to fame after securing the role of Marley Rose in Fox's hit musical series "Glee" and was featured in a total of 42 episodes from 2012 through to 2014.

Her feature film credits also include "Whiplash" (2014), "Danny Collins," "The Longest Ride," and "Band of Robbers" (2015), "Patriots Day," and "Lowriders" (2016), and "Billy Boy," and "Sun Dogs" (2017).

In October 2015 she shot to superstardom after landing the role of Kara Zor-El (aka Kara Danvers aka Supergirl) in DC Comics' hit TV series which premiered on CBS before switching to The CW for the second season. She has starred as Supergirl for three seasons to date with a fourth on its way for fall 2018. Her character has also appeared in connected DC Comics series "Arrow," "The Flash," and "DC's Legends of Tomorrow," also on The CW.

She also appeared as Rachel Koresh in the six episode mini-series "Waco" on the Paramount Network from January to February 2018.

Ms. Benoist made her Broadway debut as Carole King in Beautiful: The Carole King Musical from June 7 through August 4 at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre on Broadway.
