Golden Globe winner Danny DeVito stars in I Need That, the newest comedy from Theresa Rebeck that kicks off Roundabout Theatre Company's 2023-24 Broadway season. Get I Need That tickets on New York Theatre Guide.
In Rebeck's I Need That play, DeVito plays Sam, a reclusive hoarder who prefers the company of his things to the company of people. But when threatened with eviction if he doesn't clean up his place, Sam must finally decide what's trash and what's treasure. The distinction, it turns out, is muddy.
I Need That is the fifth Broadway play of Theresa Rebeck, following Mauritius, Seminar, Dead Accounts, and Bernhardt/Hamlet. Rebeck has written more than 40 full-length plays and one-acts that have appeared off Broadway and beyond. Her play Omnium Gatherum was a finalist for the 2004 Pulitzer Prize for Drama.
In I Need That on Broadway, DeVito stars opposite his daughter, Lucy DeVito. The play is Danny DeVito's second Broadway gig after 2017's The Price (which earned him a Best Featured Actor Tony nomination) and is Lucy DeVito's Broadway debut.
Danny DeVito has appeared in more than 100 movies and TV shows during his 50-plus-year career. He is best known for his Emmy- and Golden Globe-winning performance as Louie De Palma in Taxi and, currently, as Frank Reynolds in It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. He is also a director and producer of films including Matilda.
