What the new theatre vaccine guidelines mean for kids

Find out the vaccination requirements in place for children ages 5-11 to attend a Broadway or Off-Broadway show.

Now that Covid-19 vaccines have become more widely available to young children, the vaccination requirements in New York have changed in turn. On January 10, the Broadway League announced that children ages 5 to 11 will have to be fully vaccinated to attend a Broadway show beginning January 29.

The new guidance is in accorance with the latest NYC guidelines under Mayor Eric Adams. Previously, per a December mandate by former Mayor Bill de Blasio, children aged 5-11 were able to present proof of one dose of a Covid-19 vaccine. Now, as with the existing vaccination requirements for theatregoers aged 12 and older, children must have received a one-dose vaccine or the second dose of a two-dose vaccine 14 days before their performance, and they may only present a negative test to attend a show if they have proof of a legitimate medical or religious exemption from vaccination. Children under 4 are not permitted in Broadway theatres.

Read below for information on the vaccination requirements for children at all Broadway shows, as well as family-friendly Off-Broadway shows. This article will be continually updated with the newest information as it is announced.
