Veronica J. Kuehn returns to Avenue Q

Kuehn reprises the roles of Kate Monster and Lucy the Slut in the much-loved musical comedy at New World Stages.

Veronica J. Kuehn returns to the Tony Award-winning "Best Musical" Avenue Q at New World Stages tonight, reprising the roles of Kate Monster and Lucy the Slut. As previously reported, Drama Desk Award nominee Gizel Jiménez is set to assume the role of Nessarose (on March 12) in the hit musical Wicked and played her final performance in Avenue Q on February 17, 2019.

Ms. Kuehn previously enjoyed a lengthy run in Avenue Q from July 2011 through to February 2015 and has also appeared in the Broadway production of Mamma Mia! and has starred as Jovie in both National Tours of Elf. 

The current off-Broadway cast of Avenue Q includes Grace Choi (as Christmas Eve), Matt Dengler (as Princeton and Rod), Jamie Glickman (as Mrs. T., Bear & Others), Jason Jacoby (as Nicky, Trekkie Monster, Bear & Others), Nicholas Kohn (as Brian), Veronica J. Kuehn (as Kate Monster and Lucy the Slut), and Lacretta (as Gary Coleman).

Ensemble members include Katie Boren and newcomer Rob Morrison, and swings include Michael Liscio, Jr. and Imari Hardon.

As previously announced, after a Broadway and Off-Broadway run over over 15 years, producers confirmed a closing date of April 28, 2019, for the musical. Upon closing, the production will have played a total of 6,537 performances since its first Broadway preview on July 14, 2003.

Avenue Q features music & lyrics by Robert Lopez and Jeff Marx, with a book by Jeff Whitty, and is directed by Jason Moore.

Synopsis: "Avenue Q is set in a rundown outer-borough neighbourhood, where the residents - both puppets and humans - deal with everyday New York challenges like getting a job, falling in love and discovering their purpose in life."

Avenue Q debuted off-Broadway, co-produced by The New Group and the Vineyard Theatre, in March 2003 and transferred to Broadway's Golden Theatre in July 2003. The show went on to win the 2004 Tony Awards for "Best Musical," "Best Score" (for Mr. Lopez and Mr. Marx), and "Best Book of a Musical" (for Mr. Whitty) and enjoy a Broadway run of more than 6 years, closing on September 13, 2009. The production moved to Off-Broadway's New World Stages on October 9, 2009, and officially opened on October 21. 

The creative team features puppets conceived and designed by Rick Lyon, musical supervision by Stephen Oremus, choreography by Ken Roberson, scenic design by Anna Louizos, costume design by Mirena Rada, lighting design by Howell Binkley, and sound design by Acme Sound Partners.

The musical comedy is produced at New World Stages by Kevin McCollum, Robyn Goodman, Jeffrey Seller, The Vineyard Theatre and The New Group.

Avenue Q Tickets are available now for performances through to April 28, 2019.
