Tony Award winner Tonya Pinkins has announced that she will depart the Classic Stage Company's revival of Bertolt Brecht's Mother Courage and Her Children early. She will play her final performance on 5 January 2016. No reason has been given although the New York Times reports that "the actress penned a statement revealing why she was departing the show, but her lawyer advised her not to share it."

The Classic Stage Company had scheduled an opening night for 7 January 2016 (following previews from 9 December 2015), but has now postponed opening night and will announce replacement casting shortly. The limited engagement is set to run through to 24 January 2016.

The Bertolt Brecht classic is directed by Brian Kulick and features new music by Tony Award winner Duncan Sheik.

Synopsis: "The indomitable Mother Courage follows one luckless army after another across a war-torn world in her canteen wagon. She'll do anything to hold onto her money-making wagon, even if it means the loss of her children. Experience a timeless tale of war and big business updated to the modern-day conflagration in the Congo."

Mother Courage and Her Children features scenic design by Tony Straiges, costume design by Toni-Leslie James, lighting design by Justin Townsend and sound design by Matt Stine.
