Second Stage Theatre will present the NY premiere of Dear Evan Hansen at the Tony Kiser Theatre, beginning performances in Spring 2016.

The new musical features a book by Steven Levenson, music and lyrics by Tony and Emmy nominees Benj Pasek & Justin Paul, and is directed by three-time Tony nominee Michael Greif.

Second Stage Artistic Director Carole Rothman commented:

"The story of Evan Hansen couldn't be more current or immediate and I am proud to present the New York Premiere of this powerful and moving new American musical. I'm also very much looking forward to welcoming Benj and Justin, with whom we so happily collaborated on Dogfight, and Michael Greif, who memorably staged Next to Normal for us, back to the Second Stage family. And I've been a fan of Steven's work for many years, so I am very excited to work with him on this project."
Synopsis: "The musical follows Evan Hansen, who's about to find out what it really means to belong. Dear Evan Hansen is the contemporary story of his search for the things in life we all need: Friends, family and a place to call home."

Dear Evan Hansen ends its current run at Washington D.C.'s Arena Stage on 23 August 2015.

Although no casting for the off-Broadway production has been officially announced, the Washington D.C. cast includes Ben Platt, Laura Dreyfuss, Mike Faist, Rachel Bay Jones, Michael Park, Will Roland and Jennifer Laura Thompson.

Second Stage Theatre's 37th season also includes the current production of Whorl Inside a Loop, starring Sherie Rene Scott, as well as two further New York premieres: a new musical by Matt Gould and Griffin Matthews Invisible Thread, directed by Tony Award winner Diane Paulus, and Lydia R. Diamond's play Smart People directed by Tony Award winner Kenny Leon.
