Paulo Szot to play Billy Flynn in ‘Chicago’ on Broadway
Szot joins previously announced principal cast members Ana Villafañe, Bianca Marroquín, and Lillias White.
Paulo Szot will give audiences the ol’ razzle dazzle as Billy Flynn when Chicago reopens on Broadway. Performances resume on September 14 at the Ambassador Theatre.
With the announcement of Szot as Flynn, the full reopening cast for Chicago has been officially set. Szot will join Ana Villafañe as Roxie Hart, Bianca Marroquín as Velma Kelly, Lillias White as Matron “Mama” Morton, Raymond Bokhour as Amos Hart and Ryan Lowe as Mary Sunshine.
Szot’s first, and most recent, turn on Broadway was in South Pacific at Lincoln Center Theater in 2008. His performance as Emile de Becque earned him a Tony Award, a Drama Desk Award, an Outer Critics Circle Award, and a Theatre World Award. He has performed globally in theatre and opera, appearing in venues including the Metropolitan Opera, Paris Opera, Teatro Real, and more. Recent roles include Higgins in a São Paulo, Brazil production of My Fair Lady and as Peron in Evita in Australia.
Chicago follows divas Roxie Hart and Velma Kelly, jailed for murder, as they seek to use their infamy to propel them to true fame. The current Chicago revival, which has been playing on Broadway since 1996, is one of the longest-running musicals in Broadway history.
Chicago tickets are on sale on New York Theatre Guide now.
