Mother of the Maid, starring Glenn Close, adds a final extension at the Public Theater

The New York premiere of Mother of the Maid will now run through to December 23, 2018.

The Public Theater has now a final extension for its upcoming New York premiere of Jane Anderson's Mother of the Maid, which begins previews at the Public's Anspacher Theater on September 25, 2018, ahead of an official opening on October 17. In addition, due to popular demand The limited engagement was initially scheduled to run through to November 18, 2018, but due to popular demand, it previously extended through to December 2 and will now play its final performance on December 23, 2018.

The cast of Mother of the Maid includes six-time Academy Award nominee and three-time Tony & Emmy Award winner Glenn Close (as Isabelle, the mother of Joan of Arc), alongside Dermot Crowley (as Jacques Arc), Olivia Gilliatt (as Monique), Kate Jennings Grant (as Lady of the Court), Andrew Hovelson (as Pierre Arc), Daniel Pearce (as Father Gilbert), and Grace Van Patten (as Joan Arc).

Synopsis: "Mother of the Maid tells the story of Joan of Arc's mother, a sensible, hard-working, God-fearing peasant woman whose faith is upended as she deals with the baffling journey of her odd and extraordinary daughter. This riveting play is an epic tale told through an unexpected and remarkable new perspective and is a deeply moving drama about the glories and challenges of raising an exceptional child."

Under the direction of Matthew Penn, the creative team also features scenic design by John Lee Beatty, costume design by Jane Greenwood, lighting design by Lap Chi Chu, sound design by Alexander Sovronsky & Joanna Lynne Staub, and original music by Alexander Sovronsky.

Glenn Close is set to return to the off-Broadway stage for the first time since 1985 with this production, although she did lend her voice as the Giant for the Public's production of Into the Woods at the Delacorte Theater in the summer of 2012. She was last seen on the Broadway stage in the spring of 2017, reprising her 1995 Tony Award-winning performance as Norma Desmond in the acclaimed revival of Sunset Boulevard. She also won Tony Awards in 1992 and 1984 for her performances in Death and the Maiden and The Real Thing, respectively, and earned her first Tony Award nomination for Barnum in 1980. Her other Broadway credits include A Delicate BalanceBenefactorsThe Crucifer of BloodRexThe Member of the WeddingThe Rules of the Game, and her Broadway debut in Love for Love in 1974. On screen, she has received Academy Award nominations for her performances in "Alberts Nobbs" (2012), "Dangerous Liaisons" (1989), "Fatal Attraction" (1988), "The Natural" (1985), "The Big Chill" (1984), and "The World According to Garp" (1983), and is also known for her iconic role as Cruella DeVil in Disney's live-action remake of "101 Dalmatians" (1996) and as Patty Hewes in the hit FX/Audience TV series "Damages" (2007-12).

Mother of the Maid Tickets are available now for performances from September 25 through to December 23, 2018.
