Lincoln Center Theater presents The Rolling Stone, starring Ato Blankson-Wood

Lincoln Center Theater will present the American premiere of The Rolling Stone, written by Chris Urch and directed by Saheem Ali, which is scheduled to begin previews off-Broadway at the Mitzi E. Newhouse Theater on June 20, 2019, ahead of an official opening on July 15 and a limited engagement through to August 25, 2019.

Synopsis: "Set in Uganda, a country subjected to severe anti-homosexuality laws, The Rolling Stone, is an intimate yet explosive family drama about two brothers at odds - one a gay man in a clandestine relationship, and the other a church pastor who fervently rails against the lifestyle his brother is forced to conceal."

The cast of The Rolling Stone includes Ato Blankson-Wood (as Dembe), Latoya Edwards (as Wummie), Robert Gilbert (as Sam), Myra Lucretia Taylor (as Mama), Adenike Thomas (as Naome), and James Udom (as Joe).

The creative team features scenic design by Arnulfo Maldonado, costume design by Dede Ayite, lighting design by Japhy Weideman, and original music & sound design by Justin Ellington.

The Rolling Stone originally premiered at Manchester's Royal Exchange Theatre in the UK, before heading to London's Orange Tree Theatre to make its off-West End debut, winning the Manchester Theatre Award for "Best New Play" and Off-West End Award for "Best New Play," respectively.

Lincoln Center Theater's current production of Nantucket Sleigh Ride, starring Tony and 5-time Emmy Award winner John Larroquette, continues at the Mitzi E. Newhouse Theater through to May 5, 2019, the LCT3 production of Marys Seacole, starring Obie Award winner Quincy Tyler Bernstine, continues at the Claire Tow Theater through to April 7, 2019, and the Broadway revival of Lerner & Loewe's classic musical My Fair Lady, starring Tony Award winner Laura Benanti, continues at the Vivian Beaumont Theater.
