Kevin Chamberlin joins the cast of Broadway's Wicked as The Wizard
The three-time Tony Award nominee begins performances at Broadway's Gershwin Theatre tonight.
Broadway's hit musical Wicked welcomes three-time Tony Award nominee Kevin Chamberlin to the cast at the Gershwin Theatre tonight, as he assumes the role of The Wizard. Fred Applegate played his final performance in the role on May 20.
Mr. Chamberlin earned Tony Award nominations for his performances in The Addams Family (2010), Suessical (2001), and Dirty Blonde (2000) and has also appeared on the Great White Way in Disaster!, The Ritz, Triumph of Love, Abe Lincoln in Illinois, My Favorite Year, as well as the Broadway and National Tour productions of Chicago.
The current principal cast of Wicked includes Jennifer DiNoia (as Elphaba), Amanda Jane Cooper (as Glinda), Ashley Parker Angel (as Fiyero), three-time Tony Award nominee Kevin Chamberlin (as The Wizard), Kristen Martin (as Nessarose), Tony Award nominee Isabel Keating (as Madame Morrible), Jye Frasca (as Boq), and Martin Moran (as Dr. Dillamond).
The Broadway musical Wicked officially opened at the Gershwin Theatre on October 30, 2003, following previews from October 8.
Wicked features music & lyrics by Stephen Schwartz, a book by Winnie Holzman, and is based on the popular novel by Gregory Maguire.
Synopsis: "Long before Dorothy drops in, two other girls meet in the land of Oz. One, born with emerald-green skin, is smart, fiery and misunderstood. The other is beautiful, ambitious and very popular. Wicked tells the story of their remarkable odyssey, how these two unlikely friends grow to become the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good Witch."
The production is directed by Joe Mantello, with choreography by James Lynn Abbott, and features scene design by Eugene Lee, costume design by Susan Hilferty, lighting design by Kenneth Posner and sound design by Tony Meola.
Wicked is produced on Broadway by Universal Stage Productions, Marc Platt, The Araca Group, Jon B. Platt, and David Stone.
Wicked Tickets are available now for performances through to January 6, 2019.
