Producer Scott Rudin has announced a last-minute shake-up for the imminent world premiere of Gary: A Sequel to Titus Andronicus, a new comedy by Pulitzer Prize finalist Taylor Mac and starring three-time Tony Award winner Nathan Lane in the titular role, which is scheduled to begin previews at Broadway's Booth Theatre tomorrow, March 5, 2019, ahead of an official opening on April 11 and a limited run through to August 4, 2019.

Previously announced cast member and two-time Tony Award winner Andrea Martin has had to unfortunately depart the production on doctor's orders due to a sustained injury. Cast member and Tony Award nominee Kristine Nielsen will now play the role of Janice (instead of Ms. Martin) and Tony Award winner Julie White has also now joined the cast to play Nielsen's previous role of Carol.

Ms. Martin commented: "I am heartbroken to have to leave the production and have tried to convince the doctor that my funny bone is stronger than my broken ribs. But regretfully I must follow the doctor's orders. I love everyone involved in this beautiful play and will miss them profoundly. I will be cheering them on from the audience at the Booth Theatre."

Synopsis: "In Gary, Taylor Mac's singular world view intersects with Shakespeare's first tragedy, Titus Andronicus. In Mac's extraordinary new play, set during the fall of the Roman Empire, the years of bloody battles are over. The civil war has ended. The country has been stolen by madmen, and there are casualties everywhere (among them a midwife on the verge of death - Nielsen). And two very lowly servants - Lane and Martin - are charged with cleaning up the bodies. The year is 400 - but it feels like the end of the world."

Tony Award-winning director George C. Wolfe is at the helm the production, which also feature scenic design by four-time Tony Award winner Santo Loquasto, costume design by Tony and Academy Award winner Ann Roth, and lighting design by nine-time Tony Award winner Jules Fisher & three-time Tony Award winner Peggy Eisenhauer.

Gary: A Sequel to Titus Andronicus marks the Broadway debut for playwright Taylor Mac, who previously made his off-Broadway debut with Hir at Playwrights Horizons in 2015. He also conceived, rwote and starred in A 24-Decade History of Popular Music, and has previously appeared on stage for the Public Theater in Good Person of Szechwan in 2013 and for Classic Stage Company in A Midsummer Night's Dream in 2012.

Julie White was last seen on the Great White Way in 2017, assuming the role of Nora in A Doll's House, Part 2. She won a Tony Award in 2007 for her performance as Diane in The Little Dog Laughed and earned a Tony nomination in 2015 for Airline Highway. Her other Broadway credits include SylviaVanya and Sonia and Masha and SpikeAnn, and The Heidi Chronicles.
