Ivanov

Classic Stage Company has announced three plays for its upcoming 46th Season. The company's 2012-2013 season will feature Anton Chekhov's Ivanov, Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine's musical Passion, directed by John Doyle, and Bertolt Brecht's The Caucasian Chalk Circle.

 

Casting announcements and specific dates for each production will be forthcoming.

The plays will be presented in the following season order:

Ivanov
by Anton Chekhov
Directed by Austin Pendleton
Cast: Ethan Hawke as 'Nikolai Ivanov', with further casting to be announced.
Date: Expected Oct 2012.

Synopsis: Once a man of limitless promise, Ivanov is plunged into debt. His marriage is in crisis, and his evenings are spent negotiating loans, avoiding love affairs and fighting to resist the small town jealousies and intrigues which threaten to engulf his life.

Cast: Judy Kuhn (Fosca) and Melissa Errico (Clara), with further casting to be announced.
Dates: Expected Feb 2013

Synopsis: Set in 19th century Italy, the plot concernsCaptain Giorgio Bachetti, a military hero, transferred to a strange and remote Italian outpost. Far away from his beloved Clara, he encounters Fosca, the cousin of his commanding officer, and her influence has shattering and inconceivable consequences.

The Caucasian Chalk Circle

Synopsis: A servant girl sacrifices everything to protect a child abandoned in the heat of civil war. Order restored, she is made to confront the boy's biological mother in a legal contest over who deserves to keep him.
