The Public Theater has announced a second extension for its current North American premiere of London's hit musical play Girl from the North Country, which began previews at the Public's Newman Theater on September 11, 2018, and officially opened last night, October 1. The limited engagement was initially scheduled to run through to November 18, before previously extending to December 9, and will now run through to December 23, 2018.

The musical play is written and directed by Conor McPherson and features the songs of music legend Bob Dylan.

Synopsis: "Bob Dylan's inimitable songbook is authentically transformed into this achingly beautiful story of a down-on-its-luck community on the brink of change in Dylan's hometown, Duluth, Minnesota, in 1934. Conor McPherson has created a mythical new show, weaving the music of our greatest poet-singer-songwriter into a piercing drama about home, heart, and the searching determination of the American soul."

The complete cast of Girl from the North Country includes (in alphabetical order) Todd Almond (as Elias Burke), Jeannette Bayardelle (as Mrs. Neilson), Tony Award nominee Stephen Bogardus (as Nick Laine), Sydney James Harcourt (as Joe Scott), Caitlin Houlahan (as Kate Draper), Robert Joy (as Dr. Walker), three-time Tony Award nominee Marc Kudisch(as Mr. Burke), Luba Mason (as Mrs. Burke), Tom Nelis (as Mr. Perry), two-time Tony Award nominee David Pittu (as Reverend Marlowe), Colton Ryan (as Gene Laine), Kimber Sprawl (as Marianne Laine), and Oscar & Tony Award nominee Mare Winningham (as Elizabeth Laine), alongside ensemble members Matthew Frederick Harris, John Schiappa, Rachel Stern, and Chelsea Lee Williams.

Conor McPherson previously commented: "I just couldn't be more thrilled with this amazing company. We're all so looking forward to presenting Girl from the North Country to New York audiences at The Public, just a few blocks from where Bob Dylan began his journey into legend."

Girl from the North Country originally premiered at London's Old Vic in July 2017, before transferring to the Noel Coward Theatre in the West End for a 12-week run from December 2017. Read Mark Shenton's 5* review on our London Theatre Guide sister site.
