The Broadway comedy Chicken & Biscuits has announced a closing date of November 28 at the Circle in the Square Theatre. The play, written by first-time Broadway playwright Douglas Lyons and helmed by Zhailon Levingston, the youngest-ever Black director on Broadway, was originally set to run through January 2, 2022.

"We make this decision with a very heavy heart, as this production has brought so much joy into our lives during a very challenging time," the show's producers said in a statement. "We witnessed first-hand the delights, surprises, laughter, and representation it bestowed upon a diverse and welcoming audience."

The announcement comes in the wake of show cancellations due to breakthrough Covid-19 cases in the company. Chicken & Biscuits initially canceled only three performances from November 9-11. However, performances are now canceled for an additional week, resuming on November 19.

Following a 2020 world premiere in Queens, Chicken & Biscuits began Broadway performances on September 23, 2021 and opened on October 10. More than 30 people made their Broadway debuts in the play, including Lyons, five cast members, and many backstage and creative staff. Lyons's show follows a family who confront, and must overcome, longstanding tensions and a long-held family secret at the family patriarch's funeral. The New York Theatre Guide review reads, "In this laughter-rich script, and under Zhailon Levington's sparkling direction, the experience eschews the pitfalls of typical media portrayals of Black tragedy in favor of Black joy."
