Broadway's Wicked is set to welcome Nancy Opel, Jamie Jackson & Jesse JP Johnson
The smash hit Broadway musical Wicked announces a new Madame Morrible, Dr. Dillamond and Boq.
New citizens of Oz have been revealed for the long-running hit musical Wicked as Tony Award nominee Nancy Opel and Jamie Jackson are set to assume the roles of Madame Morrible and Doctor Dillamond, respectively, from November 20, 2018 at the Gershwin Theatre on Broadway. Current cast members Tony Award nominee Isabel Keating and Martin Moran are scheduled to play their final performances in the respective roles on November 18. In addition, Jesse JP Johnson will assume the role of Boq on December 11, with Jye Frasca playing his final performance on December 9.
Nancy Opel's previous Broadway credits include a 2002 Tony-nominated turn in Urinetown and a 2015 Drama Desk-nominated turn in Honeymoon in Vegas, as well as appearances in Beautiful: The Carole King Musical, Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella, Memphis, Gypsy, Fiddler on the Roof, Triumph of Love, Anything Goes, Sunday in the Park with George, and Evita, among others.
Jamie Jackson has previously appeared in the Broadway productions of Doctor Zhivago, Sting's The Last Ship, and Soul Doctor.
Jesse JP Johnson's Broadway credits include SpongeBob SquarePants, Glory Days and Xanadu, and he has also appeared in the National Tours of Wicked, 9 to 5, Grease, and Altar Boyz.
The current principal cast of Wicked includes Jessica Vosk (as Elphaba), Amanda Jane Cooper (as Glinda), Ryan McCartan (as Fiyero), Tony Award nominee Isabel Keating (as Madame Morrible), three-time Tony Award nominee Kevin Chamberlin (as The Wizard), Jye Frasca (as Boq), Kristen Martin (as Nessarose), and Martin Moran (as Dr. Dillamond).
The Broadway musical Wicked officially opened at the Gershwin Theatre on October 30, 2003, following previews from October 8.
Wicked features music & lyrics by Stephen Schwartz, a book by Winnie Holzman, and is based on the popular novel by Gregory Maguire.
Synopsis: "The Broadway sensation Wicked looks at what happened in the Land of Oz…but from a different angle. Long before Dorothy arrives, there is another young woman, born with emerald-green skin, who is smart, fiery, misunderstood, and possessing an extraordinary talent. When she meets a bubbly blonde who is exceptionally popular, their initial rivalry turns into the unlikeliest of friendships…until the world decides to call one “good,” and the other one “wicked.”"
The production is directed by Joe Mantello, with choreography by James Lynn Abbott, and features scene design by Eugene Lee, costume design by Susan Hilferty, lighting design by Kenneth Posner and sound design by Tony Meola.
Wicked is produced on Broadway by Universal Stage Productions, Marc Platt, The Araca Group, Jon B. Platt, and David Stone.
Wicked Tickets are available now for performances through to October 27, 2019.
