UPDATE: Purple Rain will be the next movie screened at Radial Park. The drive-in experience will feature select songs from the talents of Aaron Marcellus, Nick Rashad Burroughs and Lenesha "Sister" Randolph from October 10-25.

A Broadway-themed drive-in combining music and live theatre will open in New York this weekend. Created by Friends of Halletts Point and Stark Production Group, live performances will be staged at Halletts Point Play, an open-air space in Astoria, Queens. The event begins previews on September 26, ahead of an official opening night on 1 October.

Performances at the drive-in will see guests watch a show on the big screen, accompanied by sing-along entertainment.

Speaking about the drive-in, The Durst Organization's principal Helena Rose Durst said: "Radial Park will provide a unique live entertainment experience that we are all craving during these difficult times, but in a safe and responsible way."

The new experience begins with The Phantom of the Opera, joined by touring cast members Derrick Davis and Ali Ewoldt and an 11-piece orchestra. A complete schedule can be found on their website, with tickets available now.

As well as live performances from Broadway performers, audiences can also book tickets to see movies and karaoke sessions. Ticketholders will be able to attend a drive-in performance from the comfort of their own cars, or via reserved picnic tables which come with a boombox.

Performances are available to October 11.
