A Strange Loop, created by Michael R. Jackson, tells his semi-autobiographical story of his journey to become a musical theatre writer. The central character of the show is Usher, a Black, gay man who works a day job as a Broadway usher while writing a musical about a Black, gay man writing a musical. Surrounding him are an ensemble of six Thoughts, who represent his self-doubtful thoughts, as well as people from his life, that he must battle to succeed.
