2ST announces complete casting for Smart People

The Second Stage Theatre Company has announced complete casting for its upcoming New York premiere of Lydia R. Diamond's play Smart People, directed by Tony Award winner Kenny Leon, which begins previews at the Tony Kiser Theatre on 26 January 2016, before an official opening on 11 February and a limited engagement through to 6 March 2016.

The cast of Smart People includes Mahershala Ali, Joshua Jackson, Anne Son, and Tessa Thompson.

Synopsis: "The quest for love, achievement and identity is universal, but what role does race play in the story of our lives? On the eve of Obama's first election, four Harvard intellectuals find themselves entangled in a complex web of social and sexual politics."

The creative team behind Smart People has also been announced and features scenic design by Riccardo Hernandez, costume design by Paul Tazewell, sound design by Nevin Steinberg, lighting design by Jason Lyons, and projection design by Zach Borovay.

Second Stage Theatre's 37th season also includes the current NY premiere Diane Paulus-helmed production of Invisible Thread, a new musical by Matt Gould and Griffin Matthews, and the upcoming NY premiere of Michael Greif-helmed Dear Evan Hansen, featuring music & lyrics by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, and a book by Steven Levenson, which begins performances on 25 March 2016. A further production will be announced for 2ST's 37th season at a later date.
