About Harvey Theater at BAM Strong

The Brooklyn Academy of Music, commonly known as BAM, is an Off-Broadway venue located in the Fort Green neighborhood of Brooklyn. BAM first opened on January 15, 1861 in Brooklyn Heights, but the building burned down in 1903. The theatre was relocated to Lafayette Street, where it held concerts, theatre productions, and even some religious services. The main building in the BAM complex, the Peter Jay Sharp Building, still stands at that address today. The building houses the 2,109-seat Howard Gilman Opera House; BAM Rose Cinemas, which presents film screenings; the multipurpose Lepercq Space, and the Hillman Attic Studio rehearsal and performance space. BAM also comprises BAM Strong, a complex of performance spaces on Fulton Street which includes the includes the 874-seat BAM Harvey Theater, formerly known as the Majestic. Finally, The BAM Fisher Building, opened in 2012 on Ashland Place, includes the 250-seat black box theatre Fishman Space, and Fisher Hillman Studio, a rehearsal and performance space.
