La Distance tickets

What happens to love when distance becomes impossible to cross? Set in 2077, Tiago Rodrigues’s La Distance is a poignant and urgent drama about separation, survival, and the enduring bonds between generations. As humanity struggles to survive on Earth, a daughter chooses exile on Mars, leaving her father behind to confront love, loss, and the challenge of staying connected across an unimaginable divide.

Rodrigues, the visionary playwright and director behind By Heart and Catarina and the Beauty of Killing Fascists, returns to BAM with this North American premiere following its acclaimed debut at the 2025 Festival d’Avignon. Alison Dechamps and Adama Diop make their BAM debuts in a visually striking production staged on a rotating set, bringing an intimate father-daughter relationship into a vast, uncertain future.

Blending powerful storytelling with inventive scenography, sound, lighting, and movement, La Distance asks what we owe one another when the world around us is changing beyond recognition. Across generations, planets, and the space between two hearts, the work explores how love can endure when connection itself becomes a challenge.
