The New Group has announced a 1-week extension for its current world premiere production of Sharr White's The True, directed by Scott Elliott, which began previews at Pershing Square Signature Center's Alice Griffin Jewel Box Theatre on September 4, 2018, and is scheduled for an official opening on September 20. The limited engagement will now run through to October 28, 2018 (instead of October 21).

Synopsis: "When it comes to Dorothea "Polly" Noonan -  the blunt, profane, decades-long defender of Albany's Democratic Party machine - politics is only personal, especially now that her hero, "mayor for life" Erastus Corning II, is battling for party control while at the same time fighting the fiercest primary challenge of his life. The True is an intimate portrait of the bounds of love, loyalty, and female power in the male-dominated world of 1977 patronage politics."

The previously announced cast of The True features Austin Cauldwell (as Bill McCormick), 2-time Golden Globe winner & Tony Award nominee Edie Falco (as Dorothea "Polly" Noonan), Glenn Fitzgerald (as Howard C. Nolan), Michael McKean (as Erastus Corning II), John Pankow (as Charlie Ryan), and Emmy Award winner Peter Scolari (as Peter Noonan). Tracy Shayne also lends her voice for the production.

Playwright Sharr White and The New Group previously collaborated on the 2014 New York premiere of Annapurna, starring Megan Mullally and Nick Offerman.

The New Group's 2018-2019 season also includes the world premiere of Amy Heckerling's Clueless: The Musical, the world premiere of Jeremy O. Harris' "Daddy" (starring Tony Award winner Alan Cumming) and the world premiere of Jesse Eisenberg's Yea, Sister!
