The Good Negro: Public announce cast for Tracey Scott Wilson's play
The Public Theater has announced complete casting today for Tracey Scott Wilson�s The Good Negro, which opens at the Public's Theater's Luesther Hall on 16 Mar 2009, following previews from 3 Mar and running theough to 5 Apr 2009.
Directed by Liesl Tommy and in association with Dallas Theater Center, The Good Negro is the first new play to transfer from the Public LAB initiative to a full main stage production at The Public.
The cast for The Good Negro will feature Joniece Abbott-Pratt, Francois Battiste, J. Bernard Calloway, Quincy Dunn-Baker, Erik Jensen, LeRoy McClain, Curtis McClarin, Rachel Nicks and Brian Wallace.
�This is the perfect moment for us to reflect anew on the Civil Rights Movement, and to understand that these seemingly inevitable victories are anything but assured,� said Public Theater Artistic Director Oskar Eustis. �The heroic men and women who led that struggle seem even larger when we unleash their fragility and fears.�
The Good Negro: 1960's American civil rights movement. In the increasingly hostile South, tensions build as a trio of emerging black leaders attempt to conquer their individual demons amidst death threats from the Klan and wire taps by the FBI. Through personal and intimate stories that emerged from the political upheavals of the era, The Good Negro examines a world where people dare to hope for a better future.
The creative team features Clint Ramos (Sets & costumes), Lap Chi Chu (Lighting) and Daniel Baker (Sound).
