'The Fourth Commandment' by Richard Edwin Knipe, at the Bernie West Theatre
The Fourth Commandment a comedy written and directed by Richard Edwin Knipe Jr, plays at the Bernie West Theatre from the 18 - 27 Feb 2005
71-year-old Grace reluctantly sells her house and moves in with her daughter and son-in-law, both of whom are too busy with their own lives to pay her much attention. Anxious to keep busy, she checks out a local bridge club. On the way she notices John, a 73-year-old car salesman who spends his workdays being constantly outpaced by the younger salesmen working with him. When Grace overhears her daughter questioning her mental faculties and Johns boss decides to cut his hours at work, the two of them disappear--along with an expensive sportscar from Johns dealership. Where they end up (hint: a cheap motel) and what happens there forms the message of this play.
Featured in the cast: Charmaine Gordon, James Lugo, Rhonda Smith, Roy Harry and Kevin Trotta. Live music is provided by Sol Bloch.
The Fourth Commandment in a previous shorter form, was the Best Play winner of the Riants 2004 Strawberry One-Act Festival. Since then, the play has undergone intense development, including a fall developmental production at Dillons.
