The City of Conversation extends run to 26 Jul 2014
The Lincoln Center Theater's production of Anthony Giardina's The City of Conversation, directed by Doug Hughes and starring Jan Maxwell, has extended its limited engagement run at Off-Broadway's Mitzi E. Newhouse Theater for a final time to 26 Jul 2014. It was originally booking through to 22 Jun 2014, and was later extended to 6 Jul 2014.
The show stars five-time Tony Award nominee Jan Maxwell as political hostess 'Hester Ferris,' and also features John Aylward (Senator Mallonee), Kristen Bush (Anna Fitzgerald), Beth Dixon (Jean Swift), Barbara Garrick (Carolyn Mallonee), Luke Niehaus (Ethan Ferris, age 6), Kevin O'Rourke (Chandler Harris) and Michael Simpson (Colin/Ethan Ferris).
The City of Conversation is performed Tuesday through Saturday evenings at 8pm, with matinees Wednesday and Saturday at 2pm and Sunday at 3pm. There will be a special matinee on Thursday, June 26 at 2pm in place of the regularly scheduled Wednesday matinee that week. For the final two weeks, beginning Tuesday 8 July, the production will be performed Tuesday through Saturday evenings at 8pm, with matinees Wednesday and Saturdays at 2pm.
Synopsis: 'The City of Conversation tells the story of political hostess Hester Ferris, a behind the scenes mover and shaker in the nation's capital, and of the political gains and personal losses that her choices inflict on her family over a period of 30 years, from the waning days of the Carter administration to the beginning of the Obama presidency.'
The creative team includes sets by John Lee Beatty, costumes by Catherine Zuber, lighting by Tyler Micoleau and original music and sound by Mark Bennett.
Anthony Giardina is a playwright and novelist. His plays include 'Living at Home,' 'An American Family,' 'Scenes from La Vie de Boheme,' 'The Beach,' 'Black Forest' and 'Custody of the Eye.' He is the author of five novels, including his most recent "Norumbega Park" and "The Country of Marriage," a collection of stories.
Doug Hughes directed the LCT production of Richard Greenberg's 'The House in Town.' He is currently represented on Broadway with his production of John Patrick Shanley's new play 'Outside Mullingar' at Manhattan Theatre Club. His many Broadway credits include 'Doubt' (Tony Award) and 'Frozen' (Tony nomination). Off-Broadway credits include 'Death Takes a Holiday,' 'The Whipping Man,' 'The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter,' 'Farragut North,' 'Howard Katz' and many more.
Jan Maxwell (Hester Ferris) has been nominated for Tony Awards for 'Follies,' 'The Royal Family,' 'Lend Me a Tenor,' 'Coram Boy' and 'Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.' Off-Broadway she received a Lucille Lortel Award for her performance in Israel Horovitz's 'My Old Lady.' Her TV credits include "Gossip Girl," "One Life to Live," "All My Children" and "Law & Order."
