Signature Theatre announces extension for By the Way, Meet Vera Stark by Lynn Nottage
By the Way, Meet Vera Stark will now play its final performance at Pershing Square Signature Center on March 10, 2019.
Signature Theatre has announced a 1-week extension for its current production of By the Way, Meet Vera Stark, written by two-time Pulitzer Prize winner Lynn Nottage and directed by Obie Award winner Kamilah Forbes, which began previews on January 29, 2019 at Pershing Square Signature Center's Irene Diamond Stage, and is set for an official opening on February 19. The limited engagement will now run through to March 10, 2019 (instead of March 3).
Synopsis: "It's the Golden Age of Hollywood, and aspiring starlet Vera Stark works as a maid to Gloria Mitchell, an aging star grasping at her fading career. Worlds collide when Vera lands a trailblazing role in an antebellum epic starring...her boss. While Vera's portrayal of a slave turns out to be groundbreaking, decades later scholars and film buffs still grapple with the actress' legacy in Hollywood and the impact that race had on her controversial career. By the Way, Meet Vera Stark will take you on a seventy-year journey through Vera's life and the cultural climate that originally shaped her and continues today."
The full cast of By the Way, Meet Vera Stark includes Jenni Barber (as Gloria), Jessica Frances Dukes (as Vera), Tony Award nominee Manoel Felciano (as Max/Peter), Warner Miller (as Leroy/Herb), Carra Patterson (as Anna Mae/Afua), Heather Alicia Simms (as Lottie/Carmen), and David Turner (as Brad/Slavick).
The creative team for the production features scenic design by Clint Ramos, costume design by Dede M. Ayite, lighting design by Matt Frey, sound design by Mikaal Sulaiman, projection design by Katherine Freer, and music composition by Daniel Kluger.
