Sandra Oh to star in 'The Welkin' off Broadway

The two-time Golden Globe-winning actress returns to the stage in the American premiere of Lucy Kirkwood's drama, presented by Atlantic Theater Company.

UPDATE: Alongside Sandra Oh and the previously announced cast members, the complete The Welkin cast also includes Hannah Cabell, Glenn Fitzgerald, Nadine Malouf, Susannah Perkins, and Simone Recasner.

Atlantic Theater Company has set initial casting for The Welkin, the next production in the nonprofit company's Off-Broadway season. Performances run from May 16 to June 30 at the Linda Gross Theater, with opening night on June 12.

Sandra Oh, a stage and screen star known for Grey's Anatomy and Killing Eve, will star in the production as Lizzy Luke. She is an Emmy Award nominee and Golden Globe winner, and her past Off-Broadway credits include Satellites, Stop Kiss, and Wild Goose Dreams.

The Welkin cast also includes b as Mary Middleton, Tilly Botsford as Kitty Givens, Paige Gilbert as Hannah Rusted, Ann Harada as Judith Brewer, Jenn Kidwell as Ann Lavender, Mary McCann as Charlotte Cary, Emily Cass McDonnell as Helen Ludlow, MacKenzie Mercer as Alice Wax/Katy Luke, Dale Soules as Sarah Smith, Danny Wolohan as Frederick Poppy/Mr. Willis, and Haley Wong as Sally Poppy.

On the creative side, The Welkin will feature direction by Sarah Benson, sets by dots, costumes by Kaye Voyce, lights by Stacey Derosier, sound by Palmer Hefferan, special effects by Jeremy Chernick, hair and wigs by Cookie Jordan, makeup by Gabrielle Vincent, movement by David Neumann, and intimacy direction by Crista Marie Jackson.

The Welkin, by Tony Award-nominated playwright Lucy Kirkwood (The Children), is set in rural England in 1759. A young woman claims she is pregnant to try and escape a death sentence, and 12 other townswomen act as her jury to decide her fate and her truthfulness.
