'Regretfully, So the Birds Are' sets Off-Broadway cast

The new play begins performances in March.

Thankfully, so the cast is! Casting has been set for the world premiere of Julia Izumi's Regretfully, So the Birds Are. Off-Broadway performances run from March 22 to April 30 at Playwrights Horizons, with opening night on April 11.

The complete cast includes Sasha Diamond as Illy, Gibson Frazier as Cam the Snowman, Kristine Nielsen as Elinore, Sky Smith as Neel, Pearl Sun as Srey, and Shannon Tyo as Mora.

The creative team, led by director Jenny Koons, includes scenic designer You-Shin Chen, costume designer Alicia J. Austin, lighting designer Stacey Derosier, and sound designer Megumi Katayama.

Regretfully, So the Birds Are follows three adopted Asian American siblings — Mora, Neel, and Illy Whistler — on their quests for self-discovery and identity. One is looking for her birth mother, one is looking for himself, and one is looking to hang on to a piece of the sky. Their journeys take them from Nebraska to China and beyond.
