Our Lady of Kibeho extends limited run to 14 Dec 2014
Signature Theatre has announced that its world premiere production of Our Lady Of Kibeho, written by Katori Hall and directed by Michael Greif, has extended its limited run by one week. It will now play its final performance on 14 December 2014. The production began previews at the Signature Center's Irene Diamond Stage on 28 October 2014, before officially opening on 16 November 2014, and was originally scheduled to end its limited engagement on 7 December 2014.
Synopsis: "In 1981, a village girl in Rwanda claims to see the Virgin Mary. Ostracized by her schoolmates and labeled disturbed, everyone refuses to believe, until the impossible starts happening again and again. Skepticism gives way to fear, faith, and fate, causing upheaval in the school community and beyond. Based on real events, Our Lady of Kibeho is the second production of Olivier Award-winning playwright Katori Hall's Residency at Signature."
The cast of Our Lady Of Kibeho includes Starla Benford (Sister Evangelique), Jade Eshete (Girl 3), Danaya Esperanza (Girl 2), Niles Fitch (Emmanuel), Kambi Gathesha (Villager 1), Brent Jennings (Bishop Gahamanyi), Joaquina Kalukango (Marie-Clare Mukangango), Mandi Masden (Anathalie Mukamazimpaka), Owiso Odera (Father Tuyishime), Nneka Okafor (Alphonsine Mumureke), Stacey Sargeant (Girl 1), T. Ryder Smith (Father Flavia), Patrick J. Ssenjovu (Villager 2), Angel Uwamahoro (Girl 4), and Bowman Wright (Nkango).
The creative team behind Our Lady Of Kibeho features scenic design by Rachel Hauck, costumes by Emily Rebholz, lighting by Ben Stanton, sound design by Matt Tierney, projection design by Peter Nigrini, special effects by Greg Meeh, aerial effects by Paul Rubin, fight direction by Rick Sordelet, and props by Faye Armon-Troncoso. Music direction, arrangements and original music are by Michael McElroy.
Playwright: Katori Hall is an Olivier Award-winning playwright, who made her Broadway debut in 2011 with 'The Mountaintop', starring Angela Bassett and Samuel L. Jackson. Her Off-Broadway credits include 'Hurt Village' and 'Hoodoo Love'. Her play 'Children of Killers' was also produced at the National Theatre in London, as well as the Castillo Theatre in New York.
