Mothers and Sons: Bobby Steggert and Frederick Weller
Obie Award-winner Frederick Weller and Tony Award-nominee Bobby Steggert will join the previously announced Tony and Emmy Award-winner Tyne Daly in the Broadway premiere of Terrence McNally's new play Mothers and Sons, directed by Sheryl Kaller, opening at the John Golden Theatre on 24 Mar 2-14, following previews from 23 Feb 2013.
Bobby Steggert currently stars on Broadway in the musical 'Big Fish.' His other Broadway credits include 'Ragtime' (Tony nomination) and '110 in the Shade.' Off-Broadway credits include 'Giant,' 'Assistance,' 'A Minister's Wife,' 'The Grand Manner' and 'Yank! A WWII Love Story.'
Frederick Weller has appeared on Broadway in 'Seascape,' 'Glengarry Glen Ross,' 'Take Me Out,' 'The Little Foxes,' and 'The Rehearsal.' He was nominated for an Obie Award for his role as 'Philip,' in Neil LaBute's 'The Shape of Things. His TC work includes starring as 'Marshall Mann' on the TV Drama series "In Plain Sight."
Mothers and Sons: Twenty years after her son's death, Katharine turns up at the door of his former lover, who is now married to another man and has a young son. This man and his family challenge the woman to confront the truths of their shared past, and a future she never imagined. Values clash as they struggle to reconcile their vastly different worlds.
Weller will portray 'Cal Porter' opposite Daly's 'Katharine Gerard.' Steggert reprises the role of 'Will Ogden' which he created in an earlier production of the play at Bucks County Playhouse.
Mothers and Sons had its world premiere at Bucks County Playhouse in Pennsylvania, where it played from 13 - 23 Jun 2013. The production was directed by Sheryl Kaller and starred Tyne Daly as 'Katharine.' The four member cast also starred Manoel Felciano, Bobby Steggert and Grayson Taylor.
The play is to be produced on Broadway by Tom Kirdahy, Paula Wagner & Debbie Bisno, and Alan and Barbara Marks & Wade Turnbull.
Mothers and Sons will mark McNally's 20th Broadway production: 'Catch Me If You Can,' 'Deuce,' 'Chita Rivera: The Dancer's Life,' 'Frankie and Johnny in the Clair de Lune,' 'The Full Monty,' 'Ragtime' (Tony Award), 'Master Class' (Tony Award), 'Love! Valour! Compassion!' (Tony Award), 'Kiss of the Spider Woman' (Tony Award), 'The Rink,' 'The Ritz,' 'Bad Habits,' 'Morning, Noon and Night,' 'Here's Where I Belong,' 'And Things That Go Bump in the Night' and 'The Lady of the Camellias.'
