History repeats — or should we say loops! The hit live-looping musical Mexodus will return off Broadway this spring, beginning performances at the Daryl Roth Theatre on March 6 and running through May 17.

Written and performed by Brian Quijada and Nygel D. Robinson, Mexodus is inspired by the lesser-known history of the Underground Railroad branch that went south to Mexico instead of North. Robinson and Quijada play an escaped slave and a Mexican war vet, whose fictional stories are imagined representations of real-life people lost to history. The duo also play numerous instruments on stage, using looping technology to build up the show’s musical landscape in real time.

Mexodus, directed by David Mendizábal, comes just as packed with history and intention as it does with good music and good fun,” our critic raved of Mexodus’s Off-Broadway premiere at Audible’s Minetta Lane Theatre in September. “It may just be the most fun you have at a show all year.”

Mendizábal returns to direct the encore engagement. The creative team also includes set designer Riw Rakkulchon, costume designer David Mendizábal, lighting designer Mextly Couzin, sound designer and looping systems architect Mikhail Fiksel, projection designer Johnny Moreno, and choreographer Tony Thomas, all returning from the Minetta production as well.
