‘Lackawanna Blues’ starring Ruben Santiago-Hudson to premiere on Broadway this fall
Manhattan Theatre Club has announced further details of upcoming seasons.
The Broadway premiere of Lackawanna Blues will finally be performed this season. Ruben Santiago-Hudson's acclaimed play will begin performances at the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre from September 14, the night that Broadway theatres can reopen at full capacity. Find out more about Lackawanna Blues tickets on Broadway here.
Set in 1950s New York, Lackawanna Blues is a semi-autobiographical play that's inspired by Miss Rachel, the woman who raised Santiago-Hudson. In the production, Santiago-Hudson plays over 20 characters, with original music by Bill Sims Jr performed by Junior Mack.
Lackawanna Blues will begin previews at the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre on September 14, with an opening night on September 28.
The Broadway premiere of Paula Vogel's How I Learned to Drive will now open at the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre in spring 2022. Mary-Louise Parker remains attached to the production, with dates to be announced. Dominique Morriseau's Skeleton Crew will then open at the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre in fall 2022.
Off-Broadway, Manhattan Theatre Club will present Simon Stephens' Morning Sun at New York City Center. Edie Falco stars in the drama, centering on one woman's complex life. Morning Sun begins previews on October 12, ahead of an official opening on November 3.
Joshua Harmon's Prayers for A French Republic will open at New York City Center in winter 2022.
