K-pop has taken the world by storm, and now it's taking Broadway by storm. The new musical KPOP will join the 2022-2023 Broadway season, beginning performances October 13, 2022 at the Circle in the Square Theatre. Opening night is November 20.

Leading the cast of KPOP is K-pop star Luna, making her Broadway debut. Luna was a member of the K-pop group f(x) beginning in 2009 and has since gone onto a successful solo career. She's also a musical theatre veteran, having appeared in Korean productions of musicals including Legally Blonde, In the Heights, and Mamma Mia!

"Anyone who has followed my career knows that musical theatre has always been a driving passion of mine," Luna said in a statement. "Broadway represents the pinnacle of achievement in my profession, so being able to bring my culture—this Korean artform—to the fans who flock here from all over the world to see a Broadway show is the honor of my life."

The KPOP musical takes audiences behind the scenes of the international K-pop phenomenon. The show centers on K-pop stars preparing for a one-night-only concert event, one of whom is dealing with an inner struggle that threatens to take down one of the industry's biggest music labels.

Ars Nova, Ma-Yi Theater Company, and Woodshed Collective produced an early version of the show off Broadway in fall 2017, which received the 2018 Richard Rodgers Award, three Lucille Lortel Awards including Best Musical, and the Off-Broadway Alliance Award, as well as seven Drama Desk Award nominations.

The Broadway production of KPOP features a book by Jason Kim; music and lyrics by Max Vernon; and music, lyrics, and music production by Helen Park. Teddy Bergman directs, and Jennifer Weber choreographs.

The creative team also includes music director Sujin Kim-Ramsey, scenic designer Gabriel Hainer Evansohn, costume designers Clint Ramos and Sophia Choi, lighting designer Jeanette Oi-Suk Yew, sound designer Peter Hylenski, projection designer Peter Nigrini, hair and wig designer Mia M. Neal, and makeup designer Joe Dulude II.

Complete casting for KPOP has yet to be announced.
