Good Night, and Good Luck is adapted from the same-named 2005 film directed by Clooney and co-written by Clooney and Heslov, who also collaborated on the play's script. The show follows the public battle between journalist Edward R. Murrow and anti-Communist senator Joseph McCarthy over issues of truth, corruption, ethics, and the press.

"The fun part about this is we get to do a play about a subject matter that's very close to our hearts, which is about everything that you guys do, which is telling the truth, and truth to power," Clooney said, addressing the press gathered at the event. "It's not a civics lesson; it's entertainment."

Good Night, and Good Luck also features scenic design by Scott Pask, costume design by Brenda Abbandandolo, lighting design by Heather Gilbert, sound design by Daniel Kluger, video and projection design by David Bengali, hair and wig design by Leah J. Loukas, music supervision by Daniel Kluger and Bryan Carter, voice and dialect coaching by Gigi Buffington, and casting by David Caparelliotis.
