Daniel Fish's immersive staging of Oklahoma! will transfer to Broadway's Circle in the Square Theatre
The Bard SummerScape production of Rodgers and Hammerstein's Oklahoma! will begin performances on Broadway on March 19, 2019.
We Cain't Say No to this! The Bard SummerScape production of Rodgers and Hammerstein's Oklahoma!, which recently played a sold-out run in Brooklyn's St. Ann's Warehouse (from September 27 to November 11, 2018), will transfer to Broadway this coming spring! Previews begin at the Circle in the Square Theatre on March 19, 2019, ahead of an official opening on April 7 and a limited engagement through to September 1, 2019.
Under the direction of Daniel Fish, this is Oklahoma! as you've never seen or heard it before, re-orchestrated and reimagined for the 21st century... seventy-five years after Rodgers & Hammerstein reinvented the American musical.
Producer Eva Price commented: "What an incredible moment to be producing on Broadway, in the middle of this wonderfully eclectic season spurred by an audience that is hungry for bold, daring work. Daniel Fish's timeless and timely revival of this classic speaks so vividly to the place we as Americans are living in today."
Oklahoma! features music by Richard Rodgers and a book and lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II (based on the play Green Grow the Lilacs by Lynn Riggs), with original dances by Agnes de Mille.
This Bard SummerScape production features orchestrations, arrangements & music supervision by Daniel Kluger, new choreography by John Heginbotham, music direction by Nathan Koci, scenic design by Laura Jellinek (based on an original concept by John Conklin), costume design by Terese Wadden, lighting design by Scott Zielinski, sound design by Drew Levy, and projection design by Joshua Thorson.
Casting for the Broadway transfer will be announced at a later date, however, the St. Ann's Warehouse production featured Rebecca Naomi Jones (as Laurey), Damon Daunno (as Curly), two-time Tony Award-nominee Mary Testa (as Aunt Eller), Patrick Vaill (as Jud Fry), Ali Stroker (as Ado Annie), James Davis (as Will Parker), Michael Nathanson (as Ali Hakim), and Mitch Tebo (as Andrew Carnes), alongside Mallory Portnoy (as Gerti Cummings and others), Anthony Cason (as Cord), and Will Mann (as Mike).
The Bard SummerScape production of Oklahoma! garnered great acclaim in Brooklyn, heralded as "Best of the Year" and a "Critic's Pick" by The New York Times and the "#1 Theatrical Event of the Year" by TIME Magazine.
