UPDATE: BOOP! The Betty Boop Musical will begin Broadway performances on March 11 ahead of an April 5 opening at the Broadhurst Theatre.

Boop-oop-a-Broadway! BOOP! The Betty Boop Musical is set to open on Broadway in April 2025, with exact dates and a venue to be announced.

The show had a critically acclaimed world premiere at the CIBC Theatre in Chicago from November to December 2023. BOOP! follows Betty as she takes a break from her celebrity life in black and white and steps into the colorful world of New York City for an adventurous day off.

The show features music by David Foster, lyrics by Susan Birkenhead, and a book by Bob Martin, all based on the iconic character created by Max Fleischer. Jerry Mitchell (Kinky Boots, Legally Blonde) directed and choreographed the Chicago run and will do so for Broadway.

"Creating BOOP! with David, Susan, and Bob and premiering in Chicago last holiday season was a gift to all of us and our entire family," Mitchell said in a statement. "I can't wait to bring Betty home to Broadway next spring."

The creative team for BOOP! The Betty Boop Musical also includes set designer David Rockwell, costume designer Gregg Barnes, lighting designer Philip S. Rosenberg, sound designer Gareth Owen, projection designer Finn Ross, hair and wig designer Sabana Majeed, makeup designer Michael Clifton, illusions designer Skylar Fox, and marionette designer The Huber Marionettes.

Music supervision and arrangements are by Daryl Waters, orchestrations by Doug Besterman, dance music arrangements by Zane Mark, and music direction and additional arrangements by Andrew Resnick.

Casting for BOOP! on Broadway has yet to be announced. Jasmine Amy Rogers played the title role in Chicago, and the Chicago Sun-Times critic wrote that Rogers "radiates star wattage" in a show that boasts "extraordinary athleticism, precision, grace and sheer show-stoppery."
