Samuel Beckett’s existential classic returns in a new production featuring the *Bill & Ted* stars and real-life friends, and staged by of-the-moment director Jamie Lloyd.

[*Beetlejuice*](https://www.newyorktheatreguide.com/show/14894-beetlejuice-musical-tickets) on Broadway has named the cast for its latest NYC run at the [Palace Theatre](https://www.newyorktheatreguide.com/venues/palace-theatre-ny), set to run from October 8 to January 3 only.

The *Beetlejuice* Broadway cast is led by Justin Collette as Beetlejuice, Isabella Esler as Lydia, Megan McGinnis as Barbara, Will Burton as Adam, Jesse Sharp as Charles, and Jenni Barber as Delia. Madison Mosley plays Lydia at select performances.

Additional featured performers are Patrick Oliver Jones as Otho, Travis Mitchell as Maxie Dean, Sharone Sayegh as Maxine Dean/Juno, Vanessa Aurora Sierra as Miss Argentina, and Emilia Tagliani as Girl Scout.

The ensemble includes Sophie Aknin, Michael Biren, Ryan Breslin, Jonathan Bryant, Marc Ginsburg, Katie Griffith, Eric Anthony Johnson, Maya Kazzaz, Matthew Kurzyniec, Kenway Hon Wai K Kua, Mateo Melendez, and Lexie Dorsett Sharp.

Adapted from the 1988 film, the *Beetlejuice* musical follows the title poltergeist as he raises hell in a suburban home with the help of its deceased former residents and goth teenager Lydia. *Beetlejuice* previously ran on Broadway from 2019-20 and 2022-23 under the direction of Alex Timbers.

*Beetlejuice* also features a score by Eddie Perfect; a book by Scott Brown and Anthony King; choreography by Connor Gallagher; music supervision, orchestrations, and incidental music by Kris Kukul; scenic design by David Korins, costume design by William Ivey Long; lighting design by Kenneth Posner; sound design by Peter Hylenski; projection design by Peter Nigrini; puppet design by Michael Curry; special effects design by Jeremy Chernick; illusions by Michael Weber; hair and wig design by Charles G. Beetlejuice may be stuck in the same house for eternity, but the *Beetlejuice* musical has traveled far. Before coming to Broadway, the show premiered at Washington, D.C.'s National Theatre. It closed in NYC in March 2020, but the *Beetlejuice* cast and creative team took to social media to keep promoting the show, holding virtual costume contests, meet-and-greets, and more. The fan response was so overwhelming that *Beetlejuice* came back in April 2022.

*Beetlejuice*'s first NYC run marked the Broadway debuts of book writers Scott Brown and Anthony King. Neither are new to theatre, though: Brown is a former theatre critic for New York magazine, and King is the former artistic director of the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater. Their *Beetlejuice* collaborator, composer/lyricist Eddie Perfect, had just debuted on Broadway with *King Kong* in November 2018, making *Beetlejuice* his second show in one Broadway season.

Perfect began writing songs for *Beetlejuice* in 2014, and a companion album to the show's cast recording, *Beetlejuice: The Demos The Demos The Demos*, features a ton of songs that didn't make it into the final cut of *Beetlejuice* on Broadway. Director Alex Timbers, who staged the Tony-winning *Moulin Rouge! The Musical*, has also been attached to *Beetlejuice* since the beginning.

## What to watch for

- The *Beetlejuice* set contains homages to Tim Burton. The gravestones in the opening scene all bear the names of other Burton film characters, and they sit on hills sculpted to resemble the Claymation animation style of *The Nightmare Before Christmas*.
- *Beetlejuice* also contains references to Golden Age Broadway musicals like *Hello, Dolly!* and *Brigadoon*.
- Brightman, and the other actors that play *Beetlejuice*, use a special vocal technique called ventricular fold phonation. It lets them sing and speak in the character's gravelly voice for long periods of time without damaging their vocal cords.
- The title character’s name is actually spelled Betelgeuse after the star in the Orion constellation, but for advertising purposes for the original film, *Beetlejuice* was spelled phonetically.
- The *Beetlejuice* musical gained lots of its fans by going viral on social media. It all started when the cast posted videos from backstage, doing trendy TikTok dances in costume.
- Multiple stars of the original *Beetlejuice* movie have come to see the show, including Geena Davis (who played Barbara) and Catherine O'Hara (who played Delia). They both loved it!

It’s showtime! The *Beetlejuice* Broadway musical has been resurrected once more at the Palace Theatre in 2025.

Based on the cult classic 1988 film by Tim Burton, the *Beetlejuice* musical follows the chaotic title poltergeist, a death-obsessed teenager named Lydia, and a newly dead suburban couple who team up for hilariously haunting antics. The show even throws in a couple of signature tunes from the original movie for good measure: “Day-O (The Banana Boat Song)” and “Jump in the Line (Shake, Señora),” both made famous by Jamaican American icon Harry Belafonte.

Under the direction of two-time Tony Award nominee Alex Timbers, *Beetlejuice* promises more ghoulish fun and frights than you could possibly imagine (and the biggest sandworm Broadway has ever seen). The scenic design by David Korins is a stunningly macabre tribute to Burton himself, and the production overflows with special effects by Jeremy Chernick and illusions by Michael Weber that are as jaw-dropping as they are heart-stopping.   

The world premiere pre-Broadway engagement of *Beetlejuice* was staged at the National Theatre in Washington D.C. from October 14 to November 18, 2018. The first performances of *Beetlejuice* in New York began in March 2019, and the show got eight Tony nominations, including Best Musical.

The Palace Theatre is a jewel of New York City, boasting more than a century of rich theatrical history. Located on Broadway in the heart of Times Square, the venue originally opened in 1913 and rapidly became the hub of vaudeville's top-tier entertainment, hosting performances by legends such as Harry Houdini and Ed Wynn. Over the years, it evolved into a premier venue for musical theatre and has witnessed some of the most iconic Broadway shows, including 'West Side Story,' 'The Sound of Music,' and 'Beauty and the Beast.'

The Palace Theatre is revered for its Beaux-Arts grandeur beauty; its crimson red seats, gold leaf accents, and gorgeous ceiling murals contribute to an atmosphere that is as unforgettable as the performances it hosts. With a seating capacity of 1,740, it provides an intimate yet grand setting for any performance.

**How to Get to the Venue:**
The Palace Theatre, situated at 160 West 47th Street, is easily accessible by public transportation. The closest subway stations are 47-50 Streets - Rockefeller Center (served by B, D, F, and M lines) and 49th Street (served by N, Q, R, and W lines). Several bus lines also stop near the theater, including M7, M20, and M50. If you're driving, numerous parking garages are available in the vicinity, though due to the bustling location, public transportation is recommended.

Palace Theatre

The Palace Theatre was designed by Kirchoff and Rose, and funded by vaudeville entrepreneur Martin Beck. The Palace Theatre officially opened on March 24, 1913 and became a prime destination for vaudeville acts.

During the Great Depression, the venue became the RKO Palace and primarily hosted radio recordings and functioned as a cinema.

In 1965, the Nederlander Organization purchased the property from RKO and restored its use as a traditional theatre, reopening the venue on January 29, 1966 with the premiere of the musical *Sweet Charity*.

Since 2018, the Palace Theatre has been shut down; the building was lifted 30 feet off the ground to make way for new developments below. The renovation is scheduled for completion in 2023.

The closest subway stop to the Palace Theatre is 49th Street on the N, R, and W lines. The closest bus stop is 7th Ave/W. 44th St. on the M104 line.
