Alex Brightman leads Lloyd Webber's School of Rock

It has now been confirmed that Alex Brightman will star as 'Dewey Finn' in Andrew Lloyd Webber's upcoming musical adaptation of School of Rock - the Musical, which opens at the Winter Garden Theatre on 6 December 2015 following previews from 9 November 2015.

The prolific composer said of the announcement: "I've come to consider the casting of an actor named 'Brightman' in a starring role something of a good luck charm for a long, healthy run on Broadway...Alex, lucky for us, also happens to be a remarkable Dewey Finn. The wonderful thing about seeing him play this role is that you get the sense that he's having every bit as much fun performing as we are watching, and the result is positively infectious."

Alex Brightman's previous Broadway credits include: 'Matilda', 'Big Fish', 'Wicked', and 'Glory Days'. Off-Broadway, he has appeared in '35mm', 'Spidermusical', and 'The (M)orons Happy Hour: Live at The Slipper Room'.

Based on the 2003 film of the same name, School of Rock - the Musical will feature songs from the film as well as new music by Andrew Lloyd Webber along with lyrics by Glenn Slater. The production will be directed by Laurence Connor.

The production will feature Choreography by JoAnn M. Hunter, Scenic and Costume Design by Anna Louizos, Lighting Design by Natasha Katz, Sound Design by Mick Potter, and Music Supervision by Ethan Popp. It is produced on Broadway by Andrew Lloyd Webber for The Really Useful Group, Warner Music Group & Access Industries, The Shubert Organization, and The Nederlander Organization.

"In School of Rock - the Musical down-on-his-luck wannabe rock star Dewey Finn poses as a substitute teacher at a prestigious prep school to make ends meet. When he discovers his students' musical talents, he enlists his fifth-graders to form a rock group and conquer the Battle of the Bands."

Tickets for the production are now on sale.
