'A Christmas Carol' to play limited holiday run off Broadway

The Tony Award-winning adaptation of the Charles Dickens classic previously ran on Broadway in 2019 and will now have a one-month run at PAC NYC downtown.

A Christmas Carol will return to NYC this holiday season, in a production conceived and directed by Matthew Warchus and adapted by Jack Thorne. Performances will run off Broadway at the Perelman Performing Arts Center (PAC NYC) from November 23 to December 28 only. Opening night is December 4.

Warchus and Thorne's production premiered at London's Old Vic Theatre in 2017, and it will play for its ninth consecutive year in 2025. This Christmas Carol previously ran on Broadway in 2019, winning all five Tony Awards it was nominated for, including Best Original Score and set, costume, lighting, and set design prizes.

A Christmas Carol "unwraps a story of redemption as if it were a 19th century confection of supreme value. Which, of course it is," New York Theatre Guide's critic wrote in a review of the Broadway production. "From the minute you enter the theatre this company welcomes you with the simplest of gifts: a story to tell and the joy of the telling."

Casting has yet to be announced. The creative team includes set and costume designer Rob Howell, lighting designer Hugh Vanstone, sound designer Simon Baker, composer and arranger Christopher Nightingale, and wig, hair, and makeup designer Campbell Young. Movement is by Lizzi Gee.

Adapted from the Charles Dickens classic, A Christmas Carol follows the miserly, selfish Ebenezer Scrooge as he's visited by four ghosts on Christmas Eve. They show him his past, present, and future so he can change his ways before it's too late.
