JC Lee's To My Girls will receive its world premiere at the Tony Kiser Theatre in spring 2022. Director Stephen Brackett helms this new comedy about a post-pandemic vacation that will offer theatregoers a few hours of fun and escape. To My Girls tickets are available on New York Theatre Guide now.
To My Girls is a play set in Palm Springs, where a close-knit friend group of gay men have reunited. The Covid-19 pandemic has ended (in the world of the play, at least), and they're taking a much-needed getaway. The men are excited to reunite after a long time apart and just spend time relaxing, drinking, and gossiping. But gossip over drinks turns serious as they imbibe more and more. Soon enough, the truths come out: The men reveal things about themselves that show how much they, and the world, have changed since the pandemic began. They have to figure out how to set the record straight about themselves and deal with the fact that their friendship must grow and change, too.
Lee's works have previously been performed in New York. In 2013, Luce was at Lincoln Center Theater, and in 2018, Relevance was at MCC Theater. The premiere of To My Girls Off-Broadway marks his debut with Second Stage. Lee's other plays include warplay, Pookie Goes Grenading, and This World and After [Into the Clear Blue Sky, This World is Good, The Nature Line].
Lee is also a screenwriter, having co-written the script for the film adaptation of Luce starring Octavia Spencer and Naomi Watts, as well as episodes of the TV series How To Get Away With Murder, Looking, and Girls.
Stephen Brackett has directed Broadway shows like Be More Chill and The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical. He also directs the Broadway premiere of A Strange Loop in spring 2022.
