See this gorgeous and thought-provoking Pulitzer Prize finalist. Marking Guggenheim fellow Jordan Harrison's long-awaited Broadway debut, Marjorie Prime plays at the Hayes Theater at Second Stage as part of the 2025/26 season. Following its 2015 debut at Playwrights Horizons, New York Magazine called this science fiction play “brilliant, startling, and profound — a play worth remembering.”
Experience Marjorie Prime on Broadway — in this startling and prescient play, Primes offer humans comfort as they grieve. When aging Marjorie loses her memory, her daughter makes the decision to preserve her as a Prime, a human-like robot stand-in, so that she never has to grieve her mother. But what happens when we lose the very qualities that make us human?
Poetic, smart, and wryly funny, Marjorie Prime asks what would you say to someone you lost, if you could see them again? What if they’re a better listener now than when they were alive? A heart-achingly beautiful rumination on aging and artificial intelligence, Marjorie Prime examines the blurred line between a life lived and a life remembered.
Marjorie Prime has been a landmark work over the past decade: it premiered to glowing reviews in Los Angeles, then came to New York as a Pulitzer finalist and New York Times Critic's Pick after its off-Broadway bow, and then it became a starry film in 2017 with Lois Smith and Jon Hamm.
Now, it comes to Broadway for the first time with Tony Award nominee Anne Kauffman (Mary Jane) directing. Harrison is no stranger to science fiction, with his plays Maple and Vine and The Antiquities also thrilling audiences, and he is also known for his TV credits, including for Orange Is the New Black.
